RDog and I ventured out to the abandoned airstrip near our house where we thought we heard a bear last fall.

Driving up the country dirt road to the strip, I noticed that the fields surrounding us were full of dead trees which made me wonder if there was a sketchy reason why the airstrip had been abandoned. Was there chemical testing that went astray, a nuclear leak? What had killed all of those trees? We're we going to get radiation poisoning from being there?

I quickly forgot those thoughts as we pulled up to the abandoned hanger and got to explore.

I found a giant piece of metal blowing in the wind. It was perhaps the culprit of the noise that scared us last time we were there.

We also found concrete tubes lying around with car parts scattered around.

We were doing the picture thing when a beat up old blue truck pulled in. They were obviously not expecting company; when they saw us, they gunned it and sped away in a cloud of dust.

Then a black SUV appeared. Things were getting sketchier by the moment; were we interrupting a high stakes drug deal?

So we hightailed it out there.

Something about this abandoned airstrip really gives us the willies.

But hey, the pictures are great.
